Johnny is an ‪#‎Artist‬ ‪#‎RenownedSaxophonist‬, flutist, composer; arranger, producer,and respected musician spanning more than 25 years, Johnny James, better known as "Dr. J" has appeared with top Rap, HipHop and Jazz ensembles and many of today's contemporary artists including‪#‎EXPOSE‬ & #WILLTOPOWER. Johnny was born in Tallahassee,FL, but eventually moved to Rochester, NY,where his interest and love for music blossomed. His fascination with music cultivated immensely at age six, after his family moved near the Eastman School of MusicConservatory where his mentors studied.They were famous artists who introduced Johnny to old Jazz recordings and style. He developed his early music skills on the piano through their talent and coaching. Not long after that, Johnny found his life's passion; the saxophone.After moving back to Tallahassee he became influenced by his long time idol, nonball Aderly, who lived in the same community, and inspired him to become an ‪#‎A‬&M‪#‎Graduate‬. Johnny earned a musical scholarship to ‪#‎Florida‬ A&M where he served double-duty as a dedicated student and club musician which helped shape him into a highly regarded musician in Miami and New York alike. An artist of integrity; skill; personality and honesty, he is held in high regard by some as the next Grover Washington, Jr. of our time. Musical Background “J” as he is affectionately known by friends and colleagues, performed with thepop/Dance group “Will to Power” (‪#‎EpicRecords‬) who scored #1 hits with “Baby ILove Your Way/Free Bird Medley”, “Dreamin”, “Say It’s Gonna Rain”, and “Fading Away”. Since departing from the group, J has performed throughout ‪#‎SouthFlorida‬ from Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago Club in Palm Beach to the ‪#‎VersaceMansion‬ in South Beach,including performances with the legendary ‪#‎RayCharles‬ and his Orchestra in Fort Lauderdale and opening for ‪#‎KennyG‬. at Sunfest in West Palm Beach.J also does corporate events and has performed in Washington, DC., Las Vegas, Hawaii,Bahamas, and the US Virgin Islands, to name just a few. Will to Power is the name of an American dance-pop and freestyle music group that originated in south Florida in the mid-1980s.
